End of Summer Recap

Well, Labor Day is approaching (at least in the U.S.) and that means many things, among them BBQs, back-to-school, and the end of summer schedules. But it also means planning shifts into high gear for the 2023 MER Conference! I’ll be kicking things off with a conversation with MER’s Mike Salvarezza — watch this space for details — after Labor Day.

What issues would you like to see covered at next year’s MER Conference? What speakers? Give me your thoughts and ideas as a comment on this post, and I’ll make sure that the MER team – especially Seth Williams and Mike – are copied on your ideas.

And to get those post-summer brain cells working, here are some past Merlin posts to get you started!

What is Truth? — In a world of fake news and fake videos, how do we determine what’s real?

Reimagining the Governance Profession — In four earlier posts, I discussed four ways of “Reimagining” Information Governance: Privacy, Security, Authenticity, and Retention/Disposition. In this post, I consider Reimagining the Information Governance Profession itself.

Electrons Live Forever — Capstone, Anyone? In case anyone ever thought what the National Archives does is boring.

Life is Complicated — Life as an Information Manager is complicated. How do you convince management to pay attention?

Life is Complicated - Part Two — In an earlier post — Life is Complicated — I talked about the complexities of managing information at scale. Here’s the other side of the coin - their WISH LIST.

Utopia or Dystopia? — Two years ago I wrote a piece about future visions of technology innovation. In the wake of the utter zaniness of the past two years, I thought I would take another look at it and update it for the post-COVID world.

The OxyMorons - How do I get started with governance? — This OxyMoron journey with special guests Charley Barth and Shukra Kichambare looks at the Cummins ECM program from its start (2015) all the way to their current 3-year road map (2025).

The OxyMorons - The Vatican, Scanners, and Blockchain — This edition of The OxyMorons was inspired by a New York Times article from January 1. It immediately struck me that a true OxyMoron play is combining things that don’t seem to go together to create a radically new value proposition.

The OxyMorons - Meet Ken Withers — How has COVID impacted eDiscovery and legal processes. Find out in this conversation with Ken Withers from The Sedona Conference.

The OxyMorons - Meet Lewis Eisen — Whether you call them "policies," "terms and conditions," or simply "guidelines," most governance rules sound like they were written by angry parents talking to naughty children. Find out why this doesn’t have to be - my conversation with Lewis Eisen.

The OxyMorons - Meet Steve Weissman — My conversation with Steve Weissman about augmented reality and all things information governance.

The OxyMorons — Meet Andrew Ysasi — My conversation with IG Guru Andrew Ysasi about the security challenges facing organizations post-pandemic.
